Lake N is a bus stop concept that came about during a 2-week architectural sketching excercise. My intent was to design something that would not only function year-round as a reliable and informative bus stop, but also reflect the broader Northwestern environment, weather included.
Northwestern architecture and interesting bus stop designs populated my mood boards. Materials suggested can be found around Northwestern's campus, and color-coded countdowns indicate minutes until arrival. The curve of the roof references Lake Michigan, which is adjacent to Northwestern and is a defining characteristic of campus. Finally, the "N" carved in glass allows students to see through the bus stop, and if filled with water, can suggest temperature. Budget-wise? I didn't get there.
